Sea of Glass It seems appropriate to talk about the sea of glass in the throne room of God at Christmas time. What other time of year is there more peace and joy in the world. I know there’s lots of running around and anxiety also. But, the focus of the season is meant to be on Christ’s coming to redeem us from our sins not on gifts and parties. Not that gifts and parties are bad but they shouldn’t be the focus. Knowing that we are redeemed should bring at least some peace to our lives in this busy season. The reason all creatures can have access to the throne room of God is because Christ came to pay for our offenses against God. At this time of year when I think of the four living creatures in the throne room having eyes all around I think of Santa Claus seeing you when you’re sleeping and knowing when you’re awake. I guess if we can teach our children about an all knowing Santa we can teach them about an all knowing God. I also think of how all creation worships God in the throne room and how we acknowledge that when we decorate trees and our houses so that they are all part of the celebration. I think of how all animals worshiping God is acknowledged, even if not purposely, in shows and cartoons when animals are used as agents of Santa. If we can teach our children that these animals can know and love Santa we surely can teach them that the same thing is possible with God. I think that this is a good time to turn the tables, at least in our own heads, to how all the Christmas stories, even the Rudolf and Frosty stories, can help us appreciate how wonderful and real God is.
